Environment:

Traditionally iron oxide manufacture has been an environmentally unfriendly industry, but expansion of the cities and new government regulations have resulted in many older plants being closed and/or re-sited.   Water is one of the principal ingredients of the manufacturing process, and its recovery and purification is now a major part of the system.

Below we two examples of settlement ponds at different plants.  In the photo at right we see material being collected for reintroduction to the process.  Very little waste occurs.

 

Below is an example of the recent addition of a more efficient type of water purification plant.  These can produce excellent results, and certainly water which is returned from the process is cleaner than that in the canals from whence it is drawn.
